A landmark federal law lets your community give to a dedicated scholarship fund for your own students, and claim a full federal tax credit for doing it.
The opportunity
Congress passed the first federal scholarship program for K–12 students, and the first that lets a school, district, or network stand up its own donor-funded scholarship channel at zero cost to the institution.
More are expected before 2027. Scholarships are available in the states shown in blue.
A full, dollar-for-dollar credit, so giving is cost-neutral for the donor.
The income limit is 300% of area median income.
Establish your fund now so your community is ready to give when it opens.
The process
DAST sets up the fund. Your community gives. The SGO awards scholarships to your students.
DAST sets up a dedicated fund with The National SGO.
Parents, alumni, and local employers give up to $1,700 each.
For your eligible students.
Dollar-for-dollar, on their personal return.
The National SGO retains sole discretion over eligibility verification and scholarship awards. Donors cannot earmark a gift for a specific student, and no school, district, or network receives a tax credit.
The math
Every gift is cost-neutral for the donor, and your institution pays nothing to set up or run the fund.
Funded entirely by your community.
Run by a 501(c)(3) SGO under the EFTC statute.
Gifts to your fund support your own eligible students.
For your institution
Your own dedicated fund. Donations become scholarships toward tuition and approved expenses for your eligible students, kept separate from other schools’ funds.
A district fund that covers real program costs beyond tuition, such as CTE fees, tutoring, extended-day, and therapies. It extends priorities already underway without a new budget ask.
Dioceses, multi-campus systems, and global networks. Choose a pooled network-wide fund, per-school funds coordinated centrally, or a mix. One setup, one relationship.
For families
Most of your families are likely to qualify. What a scholarship covers depends on the type of school.
Public school tuition itself is not a qualifying expense.
Roughly $234,000–$500,000 for a family of four, depending on location. Income verification is handled through The National SGO’s application process. Check your county →

A new lever for affordability, enrollment, and programs, without a new budget ask.
Zero cost to establish or administer. DAST and The National SGO carry the compliance load.
A board-ready giving channel for parents, alumni, and local employers, at no net cost to the donor.
