Starting in 2027, employees can give to a K–12 scholarship fund and get a federal tax credit. You offer the program. They claim the credit. Their children can receive scholarships.
The opportunity
Congress passed the Education Freedom Tax Credit, the first federal scholarship program for K–12 students. It works through individual donations, which makes it a natural fit for a workplace giving program. Your employees give, they claim the credit, and their families benefit.

The income limit (300% of area median) means most employees’ families qualify.
Each employee-donor gets a full credit, making their gift cost-neutral to them.
Set up the program now so employees are ready to give when it opens.
The process
The business facilitates. The employee gives and claims the credit. Everyone’s kids can benefit.
Set up employee giving to The National SGO.
Up to $1,700 each, on their own terms.
Including for employees’ own children.
Dollar-for-dollar, on their own federal return.
For employers
The credit is dollar-for-dollar for the employee who gives, so their donation is cost-neutral to them while funding scholarships for families in your community. Your business pays nothing to offer it.
An employee who gives $1,700 receives $1,700 as a tax credit when they file their return. The program costs them nothing and costs your business nothing.
A benefit that costs the company nothing is rare. It’s a strong retention and recruiting story.
The National SGO is a 501(c)(3) operating under the EFTC statute, fully compliant and IRS-recognized.
Employee donations fund scholarships for families in your community.
Your DAST representative helps set up the giving option. Employees give and claim their own credit at tax time.
